dancing
muse
I hum a love song
for her, slightly
off key
29.
a sadness
slowly drifting
from me-
sweetbay blossoms
in the mayan blue sky
28.
talking myself
into missing her-
the dead aunt
who never
spoke to me
27.
stormy noon
at her Shakespeare recital-
I follow
her voice
beyond the words
26.
World Tai Chi Day
in the city park-
everyone
racing home
after class
25.
the restless cry
of a rain crow-
against my better judgment
I tell her
what I really think
24.
spring moonrise
I shift into
the bed space
of my night-mused
lover
23.
a moth
held fast
to the mantis bosom-
his stepwife cradles
the youngest child
22.
lifting the shirt
high above your head-
cherry blossoms
deeper pink
at sunset
21.
in my haste
tipping
the mango juice-
sunset pours
into dusk
20.
cabbage rose-
the tint
of her lipstick
on my favorite
mug
19.
the hollow slap
of a bullfrog's
dive-
she spells out for him
that its over
18.
lost
in my thoughts
on a moonlit path-
this doubt
I've come to expect
17.
letting down
her guard hand
for a moment,
senpai confides in me
April loneliness
16.
forgetting
Buddha's teaching
of the middle path...
I put blood, corpuscle, soul
into evening love
15.
3 a.m.
on a starless night-
I listen
for Janis Joplin
in cricket song
14.
not one comment
on the poem
I was so sure about-
this evening too
the mousing cat goes hungry
13.
"remain calm"
the manual says
easy for them-
black bear prints
in morning earth
12.
no pets allowed
in the old bookstore
yet, each spring
another
dust bunny
11.
an orchid
rising from last year's winter-
the shudder
of her orgasm
once more
10.
spring graveyard
the grass
thicker now
between
my grandparents
9.
catching them
in the act-
periwinkles opening
to the incoming
tide
8.
not a single blackbelt
to your name
still
the lip lock I submit to
every time
7.
struggling to hold
his toughest pose
the young gang member
asking me
about tanka
6.
her rain-beaten hair
in the evening cool-
a shard of moon lingers
just a little while
longer
5.
trying
to upstage
Son House
this sapsucker
in the distant pine
4.
stopping to watch
a pelican take flight-
at what point
did I become
my father?
3.
April
and the meadow
so thick
I almost slip
away
2.
as if
we needed
a reason
to embrace-
sudden wind
1.
the glass-eyed stare
of a spring peeper-
six months now
and still I'm in awe
of new love

Devious Comments
What I mean is...I had my first date with a very extraordinary gentleman, and I haven't dated in quiet a while...he was such a calm, collected man--but very shy.
We walked in utter, terrible silence to the boardwalk, looking out into Humboldt bay, and I told him, "Tyler, is it okay if I say something?"
and he said, "sure."
so to break the ice, I quoted, by heart, two of jade's tanka and your #3 & #2.
I said them slow and cautiously, wanting them to sink in, to make an impact on him as they did me.
He asked me, "Those were amazingly beautiful. Are they your own?"
and I laughed and said simply, "They are from my 'teachers', Jade Pandora and a lovely man name Laurence. They inspire me."
He replied back..."I am glad you shared them with me, thank you." and I could tell he was very moved.
I hope you do not mind...I didn't mean to infringe upon anything...but he asked me for you two's DA sites. He can't comment, but be happy in knowing that at this moment, he is looking over your gallery with the fluttering wings of his heart! Thank you for such inspiration, Laurence!

What's that coming over the hill, is it a monster?
I am always humbled by how many people seem to be impressed by me; I surround myself with people, who in my eyes, are "Real" people: genuine, lovely, artistic people, who care about more than one topic and think "romantically..." I see people who are happy in their own contentment, and people who make the world their own just by being in it--people who believe, faithfully and without knowing---as people who live to the fullest!
It really is not you who should be so thankful to me, but I, to Jade and you! You never cease to amaze me with your generosity and open-heartedness; you two are also so pure and beautiful...so thank YOU!
Off topic a bit here....I was telling Tyler (my date) about a book I once read..of beautifully written poetry that was quite erotic, but in a kind of sensual way that it wasn't crude of vulgar...the title being "My Beloved". (Or maybe "This is My Beloved"??? Not sure, to be honest.)
I recommended that we read the book together, because it starts out with new, fresh love and looks back on the love after it had ended, and shows us how we should love to prevent it from happening. But then I could not remember the poet's last name. Walter....? Do you happen to know? "My Beloved" ("This is My Beloved" maybe??) by Walter ---------? You don't need to answer right away, and if you don't know, just tell me; that's fine, too
Looking forward to blossoming into spring with you, my friend!
Bless!

Oh and, thank you! I am so glad you knew of the book! I was not aware it was still in print. You just made my day, my friend!

I have a suggestion: In number six, I think that 'rain beaten' should be 'rain-beaten'.
I give you props for tackling a month of tanka after a month of haiku, especially since Mike's starting up the haikuwrimo again next month!
Great job.
